LIghting Question

I searched the forums but coind not find the answer to this question.

Flourscent bulbs, the actnics and vho's can they be put into a standard flourscent fixture like you buy at home depot? I have a tank that i might make into a qt or frag or something, or it may just gather dust in my basement (the most probable answer). I would like to cut costs on the price, so what you think about just getting the hanging fixture from Home Depot and then just putting in the VHO bulbs. i guess i have to make sure that the wattage is the same..

Won't work in a standard Flo ballast.

VHO = Very High Output

If you want VHO bulbs to work at higher outputs you need the ballasts to run them. You can use standard bulbs on a vho ballast but there are reasons why they make specialized bulbs. If you want to use vho bulbs on your tank use the proper bulb, ballast and end caps to go with it. Look into ice cap.

Actually you can use full spectrum and actinic bulbs on a home depot fixture since I've done it before but you won't be able to use VHO bulbs since they require a different ballast.

Thirty5, you may want to look at http:///www.hellolights.com they have vho ballast for a ridiculously low price and the quality is definitely worth the purchase.
