I stepped out of my apartment today, with the skimmer on, and when I came back a couple of hours later, the cup was full, and was dripping on the power strip. I know I should have a drip loop, but I haven't gotten to that one yet.

so, I dried everything off (or so i thought), and replugged everything. Then I heard a pop, and everything was still running, but I smelled something burnt. I unplugged everything on that strip, and smelled the strip. It smelled of burnt something.

What should I do? I have to be in Manhattan at 7, and I might be able to stop by HD to get another strip.

Can I leave my tank with only one powerhead and an HOB filter running? Thanks.

yes... but don't keep the powerstrip near your skimmer anymore...or anyplace else where it can get wet. I usually mount them upside down in the stand under the tank.

What is a GFCI?

A Ground fault Circuit interrupt outlet.

Look at your bathroom outlet by the sink, you should
have one by code, 3' from any water area (I think it's 3')
if you don't have one by your tank go to Home Depot and
buy one I think they are around 12 bucks. it can keep your
house from going up in flames.

I don't have a GFCI! Will try to find out how I can install one.

Whew. I was able to get a working power strip, and with the one sided flow I was having, I lost one of my feather dusters. It just came out of its shell. :-(

Everything looks better now though.

It's very easy..If you can change an outlet or a wall switch you can install a GFCI outlet.
if you can't I'm sure someone here that lives close will take 10 min to do it for you especially if you offer a frag or pizza...lol
