    the optical zoom is the actual physical lens on the camera doing the zoom. the digital part... is just like cropping the center of the image in photoshop, and re-sizing it (interpolating details that the lens isn't really seeing, its the computer's best guess) I'm not familiar with that model...

    20mm lens, taken approx 20-25 feet back into a cave, looking out.. the green is a layer of algae 4' thick on the surface, in it, vis is 6", below it, about 100' the distortions around the diver... are clouds in the sky along the top of the frame... leaves on trees overhaning the cenote taken...

    you don't have to flatten layers to keep file size down, just turn off "Maximize compatibility" under Edit->preferences->file handling
