2017 was an amazing year for me. The major highlights are that my wife and I purchased a home and had a baby girl. In the midst of all the excitement and renovations however, I failed to take care of my reef tank and when it came time to move in July, I lost my entire SPS collection. After working diligently to save my fish, which all thankfully lived, my wife and I decided to go for a major upgrade from our 75 and landed on a 225 gallon SPS dominated tank.

Below are a few pictures of my 75. I hope I will have half as much luck with my 225 as I did with this tank in it's prime.

Below are some pictures of the various stages of the tank being setup. Still have to finish closing in the wall.

Forgot to ask about tank dimensions ?

Sorry for the late responses! The tank is a Marineland standard 220, I know I wrote it was a 225, 72" x 24" x 30".

I was concerned about the height as the top of the tank is right around 6' and I knew that I would need a ladder to work in it. So far so good though, although I tend to soak every single shirt I wear to at least the shoulder when working in the tank.

Time for a long overdue update!

Tank is doing great. Fish and corals are healthy and seem to be happy. I am looking to add only a few more fish, one of which will be a sand sifting goby as my sand is looking brown and dirty. I added many SPS frags to the tank from multiple MR members and I am extremely happy with how they are encrusting and coloring up.

I almost finished the outside of the stand, one more coat of paint and it is done. Also began skinning the other side of the stand an building doors to close in the sump.

Did run into a few problems along the way, of course...

First, my ghost overflow, overflowed. I am not sure how this is possible considering the x3 1.5" drains on the overflow, but the water trickling out for a few hours in the middle of the night. Luckily the baby woke up and my wife heard something that didn't sound right. We got very lucky with that one. I ended up cutting the pipes inside the overflow 1" shorter than synergy suggested and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Second, I had a bit of coral die off a few months ago as my nitrates and phosphates were high. I do not recall what they were but after a few water changes things are back under control. They are now at .11 Phosphate and 5 nitrate.

Lastly, I am unsatisfied with my flow. I have two gyre 250s hooked up to my apex via the gyre interface module and I am still not happy with the polyp movement on my SPS. I will be looking into additional powerheads to supplement my gyres.

Took a few pictures of the progress. More to come soon!
