Hi All,
Here's my new passion, I've had fish only w/limited invert tanks for over 15 years but never really jumped in with both feet until now....

Tank: 200 gal. Acrylic w/2 corner overflows (one filled with Live rubble)
Filtration: 55 gal acrylic sump, Top Fathom TF200A skimmer w/ Rio 2100
Little Giant main pump going to 2 returns w/one split for 3.
300-350 Lbs. Live rock (Fiji, Tonga, Marshall)
Stand/Canopy: Custom built, all wood

Here's the cool part, All the stuff above was bought used and running for only $850!!!! When I started researching prices, I was quoted $2500 to over $4000 by several LFS for a 100 and that was just to start!

Here's what I've added:

-200 lbs. Arag. sand (not sugar but slightly larger size pebbles)
Wanted sand bed, but not overly deep.
-6 foot custom retro lighting kit from Cooltouch Lighting in Canada w/ 2 72" VHO and 2 400W MH (mogul base style) Ordered with ballasts and bulbs for $650 SHIPPED to CA . Everything completely wired and ready to install in canopy..I thought this was also a killer deal. ( tank came with reg style flourescent which I use for dawn/dusk light)
-Chiller is on da way which will be plumbed to a second filtration system w/ large canister style filter which will provide sufficient flow for chiller. This will be plumed into two of 5 unused bulkhead fittings in back of tank.

Started it up over 3 weeks ago. I've since added some Green Chromis damsels and some start-up critters, wondermud, and live sand activator from IPSF. From tests, it looks like it's already done a preliminary cycle. I call it preliminary because I don't believe it yet. Gonna give it another few weeks before the original tenants ( mixed species clown and a brackish catfish) move back in from the quarantine tank they are living in now. I know I can do it sooner, but patience is key. Although I'm just a reef rookie, I'm sure you Jedi Masters out there will agree. My total start -up cost to this point is still under 2 grand.... not too bad in my humble opinion. Thanks for looking.

Can you believe these guys looked dead when I bought the tank? They were just brown bumpy slime when I restarted the system and figured they would help with cycle. I have been pleasantly suprised at the recovery and speed of growth.

Speaking of recovery...This feather duster lived in my 20 for at least 6 months and did great. Then I added 5 peppermint shrimp and it kept getting moved over to their corner at night. (never caught the little suckers, but they ate more aptasia after I moved the duster) This finally resulted in the duster shedding it's crown. Since I saw the polyp recovery, I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot in here. It went from zero to this (2.5-3 in. diameter) in a month.

Next up is my first shroom rock added to this system. It has some star polyps mixed in as you can see in close-up. About 2.5 weeks with me when pics were shot.

My Strombus grazers from IPSF got busy and have already begun to lay several egg masses in various states of metamorphasis.

My next piece...Indo Pacific porites coral rock with X-mas Tree worms. Also has filter feeding "sweeper" worms and brittle stars that hide amongst the surface features. Target feeding w/Kent Microvert until I get something else. It seems to be thriving with much better coral color and more open polyps than at the LFS I literally had no intention of taking anything home from. I even tried to walk out wihtout it! Glad I didn't. Only cost $30 and bigger than a large softball. :D

Hey, now I'm chillin! The green monster is a Eheim 2260 canister filled with nothing but 20 lbs. of live rock. It's closed loop pulling from bulkhead left side of tank (facing) about halfway between top and bottom, through chiller at about 500 gph and returning to right side mirror bulkhead location with diffusion into a very porous piece of fiji rock creating nice gentle flow over large area.

OK ladies and gents...some pics of my mixed zoanthid rock. I have found 5 variations and counting. Have also recently aquired some nice ricordias. One is so flouescent orange, it's like fire. Also just got a green that was just an unattached polyp floating in LFS tank. As soon as he attaches I'll snap some pics too. My "rig" to get it to attach too ugly for now, but seems to be working.
