New Tank Arrived Today

I ordered my new 65 two weeks ago, and picked it up today. To my surprise it came with black silicone instead of the clear. Also had all the plumbing included, Now I just have to wait until July to set it up. Maybe June if things work out right.

I ordered it from Aquatic obsessions in Avenel NJ. And the wait is mainly because I will be away for the first 2 weeks in April, 2 weeks May and then again in June. I wanna make sure I'm around when the tank is cycling and also to make sure nothing goes wrong. Just paranoid I guess.

Not paranoid- smart. You need to be around everyday while it cycles to test the water and see the cycle as it happens. Good luck and congrats on the new tank. I also like the black alot too I like the definition of the corners it creates

I had my 65 sitting here empty looking at me for 6 months empty before I set it up due to piecing together the equipment I wanted- waiting till I could afford each thing so I didnt have to skimp and then setting it up. Will be the longest few months of your life lol.

Was tempted to hang plastic fishes from the canopy on fishing line so I didnt go crazy, lol

I don't think the tank would "cycle" any different if he filled it with rocks and water and let it sit for the next 4 months..

Fill it when the plumbing with top off is done and let it be, do some water test when you are home (and change some water). You SHOULD be ready for fish and critters by July.

Well another reason also is that everything in the 28 is going into the 65, Im going to use macro rock and regular pink samoa sand so it should be ok and should not cycle again. The 65 is gonna go where the 28 is now. I just need lighting and a sump pretty much for now, or should I say decide on which ones. lol

Fill it when the plumbing with top off is done and let it be, do some water test when you are home (and change some water). You SHOULD be ready for fish and critters by July.

Cali are you worried about the cycling part? I'm going to add everything from the 28 including sand and live rock. The bacteria will grow pretty fast onto the new stuff and might cause a slight re cycle but most likely will not. I could use completely cured rock.

I guess I'm the only one who followed the advice as well as believes in testing the water daily to see where it is along in the cycle? Ok terrific. Ill sit in the corner now with the cali dunce cap on till allowed to come out lol

LOL Jimmy, I test my water only once a week during the cycle as well as after. Remove that dunce cap lol

LOL I would but it was given to me as a child and has sentimental value. I hope all goes great with the swap and the new tank for you. Cant wait to see pics.

Might as well you know your gonna start a tank thread anyway should have every step of the way- I did but my dumb@$# self did all the beginning stages on fuji disposables- then when I giot them developed only 5 pics came out and they were all the horrible shots- mainly of my feet lol (trust me theyre ugly)

Update on the new tank. I'm running a new outlet dedicated to the tank only. It will be a 110 line and will be a GFI outlet just in case water ever makes it to the outlet. That will be done in April when I get back from my cruise.
