I am moving to a new house this month and I am taking this chance to consolidate my two 50 G tanks in to one big 150G or so tank. I am planning to set up the 150G, cycle it, than move the 2 50Gs to it in about 3 weeks time. I have already purchased 160 pounds of live rock. Yes, I have the rock but not the tank! Found a great deal ($2.99) on live rock and could not pass it up. All the rocks are sitting in 4 tubs with 4 power heads but I sure like to be them in a proper tank asap.
I want to get a tank that will last till the day I die; this is why I am thinking of getting the Oceanic 156 reef ready tank. But if I do that, I won’t have enough funds to buy all the other stuff for the sump, etc. util later. I am also leery of my plumbing experience, i.e. – none! My 50 Gals are using a AquaC Remora each and I also have another ViaAuqa skimmer that is not being used; these are the only equipment I can see my self reusing. I will use the 3 skimmers and maybe a bio wheel filter on the 156 for the time being. I may be able to reuse 36” power compacts for the time being too.
Can I just set up the 156G but not use the over flows for the time being for a FOWLR setup?
I don’t have many corals, just a hand full. The livestock I have are 2 clown fishes (3”), 1 blenny, 1 cardinal fish, 1 Flame Angle, 1 Scopas Tang (3”)
Will the 3 skimmers be sufficient if I don’t add more fishes?
Any suggestions on a real solid 150 so Gal tank, besides the Oceanic ?
