3 inch hole in sump

quick question guys... picked up a sump recently... has a 3 inch hole ( measured side to side) that I need to plug since I will be running an internal pump.... everything I am reading online has me getting a 2 inch threaded bulkhead with a cap. so with a 3 inch hole I need a 2 inch bulkhead? doesn't make sense to me but I am not super experienced with plumbing... thanks in advance

Is the sump large? If not being to lfs with you and size it up that way

Can't you get a piece of plexiglass and seal it to inside of sump say a 4 or 5 inch piece

It's pretty big, close to 40g. I got the answer I was looking for though. 2 inch bulkhead for 3 inch hole.

the 2 inch bulkheads are measured on the inside hole not the outside

if its glass, have a 4x4 piece of glass cut, and silicone it over the hole from the inside.
