7' 210g vs 6' 180g ...Tangs

I have a tough decision to make looking for you insight. On my left corner i have a brand new 180g 72"x24"x24" by All glass being delivered by petco to my house wednesday. I have reciept and warranty.

On the other corner i have a 210g being delivered to my house asap from oceanic. It measures same height and width as the 180g only its 7' long vs 6'. 84"x24"x24". Since this setup will be mainly for tangs i figure the extra foot length without adding height or width would be awesome.

If all things considered equal i would get the 210g no doubt! Its actually cheaper. Unfortunately all things are not equal. The 210g is used. And i believe oceanic stop making this tank many years ago. this tank could be 10+ years old.

My question (finally) is if the silicone isnt currently leaking on the 210g, does it mean it is as good as new 180g silicone? Or does it wear and tear and could leak in the comming years where as new 180g wont for many years?

Which tank would you get if tangs were key?

The bigger the tank the better for Tangs, or for any big fish for that matter. As for getting a used tank, the big thing would be how long the tank was empty, as the silicone seems could dried out. Also, when you move used tanks this may cause them to leak, as the silicone can be compromised during the move.

Because of the size of the tank I'm not sure I would take a chance unless you know the condition that it's in. If you want a large tank, 7' 210g, I would spend the extra money on a new one. A long time ago I brought a used 300gal tank and after a short while it started to leak from one of the bottom seams, and I can tell you it wasn't fun re-sealing it and in the end I'm not sure what I saved on it was worth it.

Marrone i would spend the extra money too. Can you point me in right direction? I thouhgt oceanic stopped making these tanks. And anything custom gets too expensive plus shipping is horrendous.

I thought that Oceanic was brought out by All-Glass Aquariums, and that All-Glass Aquariums still made the tanks but used Oceanic name on them.

I would check around and find someone that makes large tanks, that would be your best bet. Once you find one you need to look at their stock sizes, as it will be cheaper to get a tank that they usually make instead of a custom one.

All glass and marineland seem to cap off at 210g which is same dimension as 180 only taller. Dont need taller or wider the 24" Ive heard of 240g thats 8' by 2 by 2 which is nice but they dont show up on their product lists.

Going that big I would not by used tank. You might save money buying a used tank. But in the long run a new tank would pay for itself. I think the real difference between 7' vs 6' would be more of pricing than Extra foot. Yes, bigger might be better. But the end product would be cost and time of maintaining it. Lately people are down sizing and than people closing they tanks. And than people upgrading. Plan it out so you don't ask yourself. I should gotten the bigger tank. Like me I got 90 gal at a great price but now I want a little bigger tank. I would of been happier with 120. So my next tank is 120 or no bigger than 180. Reason I just got a new skimmer that can handle no bigger than 250 gal. But I would have to upgrade lights which I was planning on anyway.

There is a Marineland 7' tank that is 265 G. It is 84 x 24 x 30. It's not the deep dimensions tank. It's a standard rectangular tank. I know Aquarium Village in Westbury sells them.
