I just purchased a large acrylic tank. It has a fairly deep scratch on one side which i was going to have buffed out. One of my buddies mentioned that he saw someone fill a deep scratch and then polish it? Is anyone familiar with this method. I know when deep scratches are buffed out that area can still look a little different. Ideas?

only method I know of is depending on depth of scratch sand it with various grit sandpaper and then using a polish for acrylic I've used novus brand and it works good .
You can check on youtube there's some videos showing how to do it

my old 125 was a used plastic tank, i wet sanded it with 600, stepped up to 1000 then 1500 and buffed it with rubbing compound, then used polishing compound, it worked just fine. its just like buffing a car. i guess it also helps that i am in the autobody business. i have done this to quite a few tanks. similar to the headlight restoration process.
