re: acrylic sump

I just completed my custom auto top off reserve/sump/fuge with icrprobe chiller. It's still dry, and hopefully I'll get it into my stand and start filling it up. I built it out of acrylic(home depot plexiglass). Some people will tell yo acrilyte(which is actually made in Jersey city), but I have no problem with it.

Resources I used

1. Nano-reef.com: I just read everything I could figure out in DIY.
2. www.melevsreef.com: Find his sections on diy and sumps. As far as I'm concerned, this site is the bible for doing acrylic building. I followed just about all his recommendations where possible. The tools he suggests, such at T squares, non stick tape, proper cutting blade for acrylic, and trim laminate router bit, are necessary. Also, his info on the acrylic glues by Tap plastics are the way to go. You will need both the #4 and the #16, plus get the small squeeze bottle with needle applicator for #4. The stuff is as thin as water, and will literally bond the parts to gether.

3. Draw out your design a bunch of times, and then take your measurements for cutting. If you want nice clean edges, leave about an inch or so overhang on each side of your sheets. You use the trim laminate router bit to clean it up.

Actually, just read and re-read melevsreeef.com, print it out, and read it again. Then you should be ready to tackle your sump project.

Good luck
