Adding (SALT MENT FOR FRESH WATER) yes. It adds electrolyte needed for South American cichlids
I can't speak for other fresh water fish cause I've only had cichlids.

+1, Why ? U need more Nitrate ? Phos ? Silica ?. more bad minerals ? i will say NO. Use fresh (good) RO/DI.

If you add marine salt to established freshwater is this kosher to start a sw tank? Freshwater does flow into the ocean.

I understand diff bacteria lives in each and I guess a lot will die when you change salinity. Would that die off perhaps feed marine bacteria during cycle?

How about topping off with "established" fw? Just curious
