Ammonia removal in my 10 G quarantine

My 10 gal. quarantine currently houses a purple tang and yellowtail damsel. I've been feeding teme very lightly but ammonia is reading 0.50 ppm. I've got a sponge type filter in there but it doesn't seem to be doing the job.
Question is:
Should I add some live rock or live sand from my reeftank? Or will I create more ammonia with potential die-off due to the change in specific gravity (Reef = 1.025, quarantine = 1.010)

Better off doing a small water change in your large tank and diluting the water and change out some in the 10.
