Thank you for the clarification
Probably these letters, other letters and comments here assisted in getting MAC to confirm that cyanide was their number one priority and that they would be moving quickly to address the issue.
MAC letter was posted by Mary after these letters were sent.
No doubt MAC is moving ahead and trying to address the issues head on with those affected.

Mary
Any update on MAC yet Mary concerning the cyanide issue? I know not much time has pasted since the MAC posting here in mid January.
Thanks

I am glad to see that more and more people are identifying social and economic problems to community level as the issues that need to be tackled by the industry if it wants to survive.

Paul Halthus is traveling to the Philippines. Meetings with fish collectors are important part of his agenda. We need to keep putting pressure on MAC to make sure they are taking a stand to defend fish collectors. The economic incentive for the fish collectors is an important aspect to solve the cyanide problem in the Philippines and elsewhere.

Fish collectors in the Philippines recognize that their guts are connected to the sea's guts. The worsening state of their resources which they heavily depend on for livelihood is evidenced by their having to dive deeper, longer lengh of time and further away from their home base, thereby endangering their lives. Fish collectors in the Philippines would like to see that the aquarium industry remains economically viable for them and for the genarations to come. They know that caring for the environment is their prime responsibility but they can only carry out this out if they are given the much needed support.
