I'm looking for a good running shoe. I tore my ACL last year so I need a shoe with good shock absorption. I run 4-5 times per week. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Im an addicted runner:shhh:. I've tried every Nike SHOX sneaker and while they are very good they cannot compare to the New Nike Air Max, by far the best sneaker for running comfort, even walking is like a dream...A little pricey at $160, but you wont want to take them off...lol. Full air under the complete shoe, and it has the Nike+ option for the sensor in the sneaker.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I was looking at the shox but if the air max are better I would consider them. I'm not really worried about the price since they're going to be put to good use.
I haven't been running with a brace. I don't feel I need too and my doc won't allow it anyway :) He's very proactive in his recovery approach (seems to be working)

2 votes for air max. I'm going to try on a pair this afternoon.

I've run with numerous sneakers and the Nike SHox are by far the worse. The bottom shox tend to bend and break if you take a mistep.
I personnaly use the New Balance 903/904 sneaker as I've run numerous half marathons and the NYC marathon with them last year. Very light and comfortable to my feet. You really gotta go to a super runners shop and speak with a person who can fit your feet to a specific sneaker.

I know more than anyone you know what you're talking about when it comes to running. I appreciate the advice. I decided to get the air max because I know i will never make it out to a running store, at least not anytime soon. I figured I would get a decent pair in the mean time. I tried a few different NB sneakers and they didn't feel as good to me (size 13 :))

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I don't think I can purchase anything anymore without consulting with the experts here first :D

Thats great u found your comfort shoe. 4-5times a week is torture on the feet. I was really hoping you didnt buy the nike shox and u didnt. Hope you get your legs back to shape and then possibly sign up for a few races with me. People i tried to run with are very very flaky.
I'm actually in the looking for a new pair of sneakers. Might go try on a few air max to compare with.

You are light years ahead of me but I am working hard. Maybe next year I'll quote this post and take you up on your offer. :)

Rich,

No offense - but if you have injuries and you need a good running shoe, and you won't make it out to a running store, you're asking for a shitload of trouble.

Having run 4 yrs of HS track and field, 2 yrs of college, coached 2 yrs of HS and 2 spring seasons on special events (Hurdles, High Jump, Shot, Long and triple jumps), I say with authority that you need to get a good shoe from a running store, not some fad-buy chain outlet selling glam and what-they-think-is-right. Most of the sales people in those stores can't even speak to what runners need or go through.

I have coached a few elite athletes coming back from Achilles as well as ACL and other knee related injuries. Rick is somewhat right in that you need to find a shoe that fits you well. BUT, most off the shelf shoes suck ass and will likely only last you 3 months if you run 4-5 times a week. Most people don't understand that (my wife being one of them) Problem is, the shoe may look brand new out of the box, but it's long past it's life and value for what you need (decrease shock due to pronation).

Not to mention, you're not a small guy (under 160lbs) which is the point that mosy shoe manufacturers point thier designs to. if you're 180 or over, you need to look at New Balance or Saucony. Asics is a great shoe (my preferred racing shoe, both cross contry and track), but they don't last. they are build light - light means it don't last as the pounding takes it's toll.

Mark my words - in 2-3 months you're going to be wondering why your knee is starting to twinge. Get a good shoe - well worth the time invested in getting it.
