Any snail experts of fanatics outthere? Ive got these small snails (about 3mm) all over my tank and they only come out at night. I used to have three turbo snails but Im down to 1 after the past months...anyways is it possible these are turbo spawn or bad snails that hitchhiked. They are too small for my cameras zoom but I tried to draw one up with the exact same angle of the conical shell. They have no pattern on their shells, its just white/grey/green.

They arent on any of the corals just on bare rock, but I did lose my T., Maxima (which Im still upset about) last week. Could these have caused it?

T. Maxima Symptoms: first: not full mantle extension, second: tissue appeared to be shrinking, third: mantle appeared to fall off of the inside of the shell with no smell of decay, finally: decay.

note: I removed a 4 inch bristleworm that was "on" zoanthids. Couldnt tell what it was doing but it was big.

Since you lost the clam after these things popped up, have you contacted Barry at ClamsDirect? He sure seems to have a lot of good information.

Hey I checked it out and it turns out I DO have the clam eating pyramid snails but I also have baby turbos in the tank. I litterally have THOUSANDS of snails that come out at night so Im gonna have fun plucking them out

the little "turbo" snails are actually a colonista sp. of snail. the conical snails that killed your clam are pyramidellid snails (aka pyramid snails). there are other snails called rissoid snails that look similar to pyramidellid snails, but are harmless.

As you can see from the pics in my thread from a few years back I had a bad infestation also, but it was managable and I did win the battle without losing my clams. I did have some late night scrubbings for some time though lol. Once I had the upper hand it was just picking out a few every few nights untill they were completely gone.
