Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has bought food from a bait and tackle shop. I fish all the time and I personally think it would be ok especially the frozen foods such as spearing/squid...clams are refrigerated and than there are live fiddler crabs. I personally don't mind getting fresh foods once in awhile at a fish market but really can't beat the prices at a bait and tackle shop.

Only thought of this in case I was to eventually get a zebra eel I could feed it fiddler crabs once in awhile to give it a variety.

In case you suggest a quarantine procedure what would you do? I doubt it's worth the time..

Much of the packaged spearing is treated with formaldehyde. Squid and live clams should be fine. I actually fed my fish chopped clam the other day :)

I bought squid a few times. The package it came in said made for human consumption. Just a little side note. The squid I get is attached to blue cellophane. If you get the same thing make sure you remove it all. I know someone who lost a fish because it could digest the plastic and got bile build up.

I have an American Eel in my pond from a bait shop.

Thanks for the input everyone, Curious if live foods like fiddler crabs well the ones at my local bait store are safe for fish. Would look out for if anything says "Human Consumption" or worse comes to worse the local fish market.
