If so how big? is it nice? Etc etc etc (all the basic other questions) :)

I've been looking at the growth of some of my corals and noticing the cyano bacteria growing occasionally, and I'm tempted to take an empty acrylic tank (72x18x2) I have laying around into an invert only tank. No fish so I dont need to do feedings of fish food, except for the occasionally snack to keep whatever inverts in there happy. I'd put some T5 lighting over the top so it'd be nice and bright without having to go MH level of bright. Maybe an inch of sand or so to keep the rocks off the bottom plus some "field" for whatever pods to live in/on. Maybe a closed loop or two to circulate water from a sump and back up, or not even from the sump, maybe an in tank pump.

And I'm just wondering if someone has done this before (even if its on a small scale) I thought about even keeping out mobile inverts (shirmp, crabs, etc) but I think I'd need some sort of movement to keep me interested :) Ultra clean water would be the overall goal, with all sorts of corals from softies like zoos, to lps/sps ones might be nice. Plus if I ever move it (which I might) then it'll be easier to break down and move (no need to catch fish!)

Oh well I just found out the spaflex return pump got "blasted" out of the hole holding it and sprayed a bunch of water all over the floor, tripping my gfci, and I just did a water change today too! *sigh* So if I have any more questions I'll fire them off later.

I have a 0.5 gal coral only. I tried the really clean water and the zoanthids don't appreciate it. They look pretty thin. If I feed them they plump up in a jiffy.

I had a nano that was fishless. It was a lot easier to keep clean, but pretty boring.

72x18x2 ?! That would pretty much neccessitate you going fishless :)

Yup, I've got a fishless 1 gal reef tank. I wouldn't say it's boring at all, in fact it's loaded with various generi and species of critters plus corals. No skimmer, no sump, just a sandbed, live rock, lighting and a water pump.
