anyone using kalk + vinegar?

1) i am using this in my autotop off. thoughts on this in general?



2) i also have a refugium.

question is does the vinegar lead to bacterial growth that starves the algae?

should i kill the refugium?

Hiram, that is fine. Among other benefits, using vinegar with kalk in top off water is a good way to reduce ph spike compared to using kalk alone. I doubt small amount of vinegar would lead to bact growth that would compete with your macroaglae. I dont think theres many reefer here using this method its pretty old school, but works well. These days people tend to use dosers or calcium reactors to delivery 2 parts, and only use kalk as a supplemental way to boost ph.
