It may be difficult to actually find someone with a 100ft lying around. It may be easier to just disconnect the unit and bring it to your router and plug in, update it, and then plug it back in to where it is supposed to go. If you were closer to me, I would just make you a wire for you to use.

I have never personally used these but you can get a powerline ethernet adapter. I am not saying that they are stable enough to use vs wired. But all the reviews that I have read about them say that people can watch HD video over them. So a process that sends minimum data may be just fine. It may be something to "research".

I am lucky enough to have about 4 Ethernet connections in each room of my house :)
 
Given that you have a laptop, you don't need a 100ft wire to update your Apex all you need is like a 10ft wire to connect the base unit to your laptop. Then you turn off your wifi on the laptop after you have all the upgrade software downloaded and you just go from there. The flash utility tool that comes with the download detects the Apex automatically. Give it a shot! That's how I always get it done. Good luck
