Henceforth they shall be known as Ex-AquaEx.

Look like MAC might be loosing one of their 4 certified exporters?

I wonder whether this will affect their certification status?

You and John have also become de-facto allies.
At least he has the common sense to remain quiet as the 'sell-out' continues.
John contents himself for now with cut and paste-up of various fishery stories pulled off the web.
Sincerely, Steve

He seems, however to have missed the latest where MAC certified exporter Tomas Heeger was just deported from the Philippines...after having the whistle blown by ex IMA members!

..........................
This may be found on page 2 of the thread "MAC's full page ad in FAMA"

Please inform us on the whereabouts of [ the good Herr Dr. ] Heeger, so we can pick up THAT (red / dread ?) thread

Dear friends and collegues,

the last 3 months I have been the target of ex-friends and business partners of AquaEx Inc. Their accusations were first successful and I was illegally arrested and detained for 9 days by the Bureau of Immigration and Deportationn in Manila (the procedure is only legal if a philippine court rules for a final deportation of an alien, then according to Philippine law arrest and detention is legal. I had no case, just a complain from Laron & Lim and was released without deportation or other charges). Please understand that I will not yet fully disclose the background because all accusations will be answered accordingly.
Just one issue: I was accused of environmental destruction, fraud, illegal business and export of endangered species by Laron and Lim. These are all lies to push for my deportation and take over the business which was completely paid by the private partner Flora 2000 during the Private Public Partnership project between GTZ and Flora 2000. Laron, Lim and other partners are motivated by money and try to destroy my reputation.
I have done considerable work during my six years term with San Carlos University (Cebu) which speaks for itself (Coastal Resource Management Projects e.g. Coral Farming and Reef Rehabilitation, fish trap project etc.). Since 2001 the PPP Project supported the goals of MAC and I was working as consultant following the MAC standards (e.g. conducting training for fisherfolk trainers from the entire Philippines for improvement of the marine ornamental trade, writing a CD for better catch techniques which is available through MAC, etc.).

AquaEx Inc. was suspended by the incorporators. They expressed that they do not want to continue because of internal quarrel (I am not part of AquaEx Inc.!). MarineFauna Inc. was founded and is the new parter of Flora 2000 ready for further exports.

The future will show the truth. Thank you to those who still believe in my credibility. Those who do not shall substantiate their charges against me, I am ready to answer.

Best fishes 2004,

Tom Heeger

P.S. I f you like contact me under [email protected]
P.P.S. The MAC certification is with MarineFauna Inc. now.

Hello Tom, welcome back on our radarscreens.

I was aware of some of your work at San Carlos University (Cebu)...
e.g. on Argonauta see: http://www.tolweb.org/accessory/Argonau ... cc_id=1725

Was what happened to you but a parallel to the Phyllorhiza punctata -Argonauta argo story???

Are you still associated with San Carlos U. ?

PS. Who is / are GTZ?
PSS. Who are the principles (players) in MarineFauna Inc.?
PSSt. Who did the MAC certification of MarineFauna Inc.?

So it is pretty hopeless to expect current information there...

I have been working on posting some messages with questions on the work that the MAC is doing.
Meanwhile I have also been waiting for answers to queries DIRECTLY ADDRESSED TO MAC , which thusfar have gone unanswered.

I wonder if I am the only one who is waiting for (e-mail) responses from MAC... 8O 8O 8O

Heck if their webpages are three months out of date, perhaps their e-mail is only running half a year behind...

On another thread we have discussed how an update that was promised almost a year ago is not anywhere to be found.

I hate to suggest a new thread, however, "Is MAC playing possum?" comes to mind.
I certainly would refrain from using "Is MAC dead?" as that might be confusing to some.

It is the only source of official information. {shrug}

I'm far ahead of you in that line.

I hate to suggest a new thread, however, "Is MAC playing possum?" comes to mind.

They certainly are playing with their cards closer to their chest.

Defenseless MAC?
Ahhh the poor babies!
Comon people....anyone attempting the change public policy or affecting the livlihoods of others has to suck it up and deal with the public.
Fisheries managers the world over are often on the front lines defending their policies against angry mobs of fisherman. A little debate online is little to expect. However, if you can't participate for lack of talent, experience, familiarity with the issue and ability to mix it up....then you don't belong in this arena at all.
The list of so-called Loonies is a mile long and has become a whos ho of the trade. Its also virtually every exporter in the Philippines and Indonesia. To attempt to regulate an industry from afar without engaging in a public process smacks of hedgemony, cronyism and backroom dealings.
Say it ain't so MAC. If you can't speak clearly then at least send another service guy to enunciate for you.
Steve
