Being going back over alot of the postings. I see a lot of you don't believe that the aragonite helps to buffer. What are all your methods of keeping the calcium at the correct level? thanks Lynn

I use kalkwasser but you will find that there are almost as many methods as there are reefkeepers. Try a few out and see what works for you. Start off with a good test kit.

Lynn, I think it also depends on what size tank you have and what you plan on keeping. Many people with large tanks and stony corals would have a very difficult, and expensive time keeping their levels up without a calcium reactor. I myself have a 180 reef with no stony corals and am able to keep my levels up by using Bi onic 2 part additive.

A calcium reactor is probably the easiest (maintenance free) way to maintain Ca and Alk. I myself drip Kalkwasser (lime dissolved in water) at the rate of 125 ml/hr in my 180. Dripping kalk is probably the cheapest way, but it requires mixing up 5 gal or so a week for my tank.

I have a calcium reactor for the heavy calcium demand and I use kalkwasser to keep my pH in a
"normal" range. Prior to the ca reactor, I used kalk (and bionic on occasion).

I use Kalkwasser, but many find the 2 part calcium/buffers are easier.
