What does everyone think about this top off unit?

Has anyone experienced any issues with siphoning? I was thinking of getting the tunze osmolator but it's pretty expensive. Maybe nycreef is offering a discount on that unit as well. I'll have to check.

Comments from anyone using the product from autotopoff.com would be appreciated.

i am also thinking of buying it but am worried about the double float switch being a little too big in my nano. i think jhale uses them and had good things to say.

i bought my current switch from californiareefs.com - cheaper than autotopoff.com, and works great. I'm looking for a new system too though- i only have a single switch and I am very worried about it sticking one day and overflowing my tank!

I just got the osmolotor and it is totally worth it. It keeps the water level exact.

<sigh> $174 is a little steep though- I'll just have to add that to my wish list...

autotoppoff.com is about $50 for the double switch
californiareefs.com is under $30 from what i remember...

Ernie, let me know if you decide to make your own, I have a few of those float switches in my garage I can drop off to you.

I built two from a plan posted by H2OENG on RC, it uses two float switch and a latching relay circuit. It is pretty much fail safe from design and it is in operation in my sump for over a year now. I just need Deanos to find that post on RC.

Thanks for the offer. If you have another float switch that would help as I have a home made version given to me by a local reefer in Jersey that only has one float switch on it.

autotopoff.com is the worst machine imaginable

I purchased the Autotopoff.com automatic top up system with double float in early 2010. I installed it as indicated and it was working fine. 2 weeks later, the valve malfunctioned and opened. This caused my tank to overflow for some time and caused water damage to the floor, surrounding walls and my 220 gallon tank stand. If you have ever had to move a 220 gallon tank, you know exactly how frustrated I am right now.

To make matters worst, after months of emails back and forth and empty promises, the owner refuses to refund me my money on this terrible unit. All he wants to do is send me instruction after instruction on how to repair it. It was a 2 week old unit, I shouldn't have to repair it ... wouldn't you agree?

I thought I should share my situation so that everyone knows how horrible the product is and to also let you know that the service is even worst.

I had the Auto toppoff float switch(double unit w/snail gaurds) for over a year and had no problems with it. I gave to my freind becouse I wanted to play around with the tunze unit. Bolth are great tunze is even more acurate. No problems with either one.
