+1, I like this approach! That is how I did it. Microbe Lift Special Blend is the only thing I dose my tank with bi weekly for the good bacteria. Other than that, naturally letting the tank develop is a good start.
You can do it naturally but why wait when your getting the same end results. All about saving time. No other positives or negatives, just time saved. Years ago these products weren't available but now they are.

Just my approach HenryStyle. You can throw chemicals in and dose your tank with whatever you like but I think that most people want "a piece of the ocean" in their living rooms and who doses the ocean? Nature does! So why not try to go as close to mother natures route? Ultimately it is your call on what to do with your tank but I was just showing my perspective.

Your tank will never be close to mother nature. Nothing in your tank is natural besides the fish. Some of the supplements that are out now re-create some elements that the ocean achieves. These supplements are not like the old additives that did nothing and even made things worse. 5 years ago i would have said the same thing but products now days can achieve something safely in the matter of weeks not months

I was wondering when someone would bring mother nature to the thread. i happen to agree with duke on his comment. In addition I'd like to add the following:

we eliminate many things in our tanks that the ocean just leaves alone. An example is the algae which we strive to eliminate, while not present in many areas, it is an integral part of other areas of the ocean. Many of these items are used by different strains of bacteria, but we don't have nor do we want these things in our tanks. The solution is to add via these "workable" supplements the bacteria that our tanks use and need.

Dr. tims works pretty much over night but I wouldn't put sensitive fish or corals in for like a month....it cycles the tank quickly (I've used myself) but I wouldn't consider the tank 100% stable and I wouldn't put a full load in right away....add a fish at a time until the first month or so passes
