I was just reading th scott michael book and he was saying there is no real way to tell male from female on sight alone. He was saying that if you put a group together you would end up with a pair and the others would be picked on and need to be removed.

Good luck I was thinking of trying to get a pair for my new tank.

Buy a small group, I'd suggest 5 juveniles, and let them pair off on their own. I had a breeding pair for several years, other than when the male was brooding eggs / fry there really wasn't a defining characteristic I could tell them apart although some claim otherwise.

My female (I think?) died at about the 4 year mark and they hadn't had a viable spawn in about 6 months prior to that so not sure how long they remain productive. Have not heard of being able to establish a new pair in situations like this.

Ditto.

Check inland aquatics or Liveaquaria for CB Bangaii's or post on your nearest local reef club forum to find a breeder in your area.
