The 25 micron filter bags and it's benefit.

It’s amazing at what a 25 micron filter bags can pull out of your tank on a weekly basis.

The picture below shows 2 - 25 micron filter bags, the bag on the left is a new clean bag and the bag on the right is a dirty bag that was changed out in only 5 days.

Have you ever stirred up your sand bed and or used a power head to blow off your live rock and see how your water gets cloudy?

A 25 micron filter bag removes what would collect and settle in your sand bed and live rocks.

By exporting this material, it does not have a chance to break down and cycle in your tank which will end up as Phosphate.

I can stir the sugar grade sand in any of my aquariums and the water does not get cloudy.

I hope this info helps some out.

The dirty bag is 1 of 4 on the same 1,400 gallon system.

On each new set-up, I start out using the 25 micron bags.

How big is your tank and do you only use 1 filter bag?

are you supposed to wash the sock when it gets filthy or replace it..?

Turn the bags inside out and check for any live critters and remove.

I wash about 20 at one time with a little clorox and dry in the dryer.

When filter bags are dry, I smell them for any trace of a clorox odor, if odor is present re-rinse and re-dry.

where do you put them?
you place them over your drain in your sump so as the water drains out all the crap gets caught in the filter socks resulting in cleaner water and as gettanked mentioned it removes stuff before it settles in the sand and rocks also called detritous.
