im changing all my bulbs in my tank and wanna upgrade to a 14k bulb. I need a 175w and i was wondering what is the best brand to get in terms of color and growth????

you may want to look into the iwasaki 15k bulb. I hear it's very white and has the par of many 250watt bulbs. It's a pretty popular 175 bulb if you're looking for something that doesn't need actinic supplementation.
