Just purchased an 80 gallon used tank with a 20 gallon sump. Came with two powerheads, protein skimmer, and all plumbing for the sump. It has been sitting for three years and has buildup. What is the best way to clean the equipment? Thanks for you help.
I'd use a razor for the glass of the tank (if its acrylic I'm not sure as I've never owned one). For the equipment soak them in vinegar and then the scale should start to break apart when you scrpe it. Check the magnets in the powerheads. Many times if they sit dry after being in water for a long time, the inner part expands and they don't work properly any more. Just what I've found and done in the past.
