If you have never had a parrot make sure you understand what you are doing by adopting a parrot. Parrots are life long pets that get very attached to their owners. Parrots also need a lot of attention and time. My parrot is out of her cage usually half of the day and that is still not good enough in my opinion. Please make sure you understand what owning a parrot means and how it will impact your life as well as anyone else who you are involved with.

These are pictures of what happens when a parrot is neglected, fed a poor diet, given away, or maybe the parrot is just stressed out for almost any reason. If you are aware of what you are getting yourself into then thank you for adopting and not going out and buying a parrot. There are many parrots in need of a good home. Don't ever buy a parrot from a store, always adopt!! Read below to find out more before becoming a parrot owner.

Timbo,

The reason I'm starting to look into adopting a parrot is for Chubby and my family. A few weeks ago my yellow parakeet who was a little over 8years old passed away. Since then Chubby, a quaker or monk parrot, has been seemingly stressed. He used to spend all his time out of his cage, now he hardly spends any time at all. I'm scared he's stressing himself out cause of the absence of yellow bird.

He's been a bit aggressive towards even me from time to time since that happened and he never was. He still loves the attention but he gets a little overly nibbley these days. I'm sure he'll come out of it, but I was starting to look into adopting another quaker.

Chubby used to start whistling for me from the time I was outside of my building, now I rarely get a peep even when he knows I'm in the hallway :( Just hate seeing him sad.

May seem weird but craigslist usually has folks that are moving/etc and need to rehome their pets. I've seen parrots there before. Some folks seem legitimate and loving, they may just have fallen on hard times and unable to care appropriately.
