Something tripped the circuit breaker down stairs and my APC back up turned on for my return but the Super is far away so I had to re-route the plugs to get the chiller back on until the Super shows up.If the Circuit breaker worked correctly, wouldn't it trip in the apartment first?

:( I hope everything turned out ok Zany. How long after the backup wore out did the super get there? I hope you didnt lose any livestock.

It would trip the apartment if it was something to do with your circuit. Its possible something caused a powersurge in the main, having nothing to do with a particular apartment.

Yes, the circuit should be tripping in your panel first, it looks like something is wrong.

one question is the outlet a GFCI, or is there a GFCI outlet connected to the outlet that's not working?

why would the circuit not trip if overloaded? that's it's job.

now i'm confused, did the main breaker shut off, or did the one breaker trip?
do you have two panels in your house?

It was the Damn Microwave. The micro and the Fridge share the same outlet and that's a no no.

Absolutely correct. The fridge should be on its own circuit and the microwave should also have a dedicated circuit. The compressor on your fridge is likely to have a shortened life do to the varied flow it gets. It's very important to have a dedicated circuit for ANY circuit that has a compressor on it.

Glad you didn't lose anything.

The main breaker is in the main floor in the building and only the super has access to it.Apparently the cb box did not do it's job but could also be that the entire load of the building was high today.Always on the hottest days this happens.
