Anyone have any tips on fighting brown algea. I've recently finished cycling my tank and just started running my lights. I have 65w power compacts (total 8 bulbs) on a 120 gal tank. I noticed about a week ago that one of my rocks was turning a really bright copper color. A few days later, I started seeing these copper highlights on a few other rocks. This morning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,covering about 4 rocks and some of the sand. To my understanding, these are diatoms caused by Silicates in the water.

I am using R/O water but I haven't added any new water since I started noticing this.

Any ideas on the quickest way to resolve this minor problem.

My tank has been set for many many years now and I am still fight this algae. It is mainly on the front glass and some on the sand. What is strange, corals are doing very well. I have a large ETSS protein skimmer, refugium, use carbon, RO/DI water, etc. I change the 14K 250 MH annually. Water change are done weekly at 10%. Have tried all type of PO4 remover including Rowaphos. Any suggestions?

Me too.Increased the flow, added Rowaphos,10% w/c weekly and I still get this but on certain rocks.Bought some macro algae and wedged it between some rocks.Hope it'll out compete those algae for nutrients. When I had the hang on Refugium,I didn't have that problem but now that I don't have it,I get the brown stuff.I'm using RO/DI too
