Has anyone out ther bought live rock on ebay? Can you share your experiences and maybe recommend someone. I found a few places but I'm not sure if I should or shouldn't, the price is right though for ultra premium fiji live rock with shipping comes out to about $3 a pound. What do you think?

I bought live fiji rock from ebay about a year ago, I cant remember the vendor's name but it was a great deal and got some really nice pieces of rock. Hope this helps and remember always check the vendor's feedback before buying.

I bought some rock from ebay well over a year ago and the rock was ok. I orderd rock from Drs Foster & Smith not long after the ebay purchase and that rock was 10 times better than the rock on ebay.
I just recently purchased some rock from marco rocks and the rock is amazing. The rock is cheap and looks great. If you are starting fresh all you have to do is seed it with a small piece from a member here or from your LFS.

I would say be careful with e-bay lots of times you don't get what you pay for. I know sometimes you do but the odds are against you. Also people shill bid to drive the prices of their auctions up.

In my experience the best place to get live rock is right here on Mr or at a LFS where you can pick the actual pieces you want.

Several years ago I order some Hatian Lettuce rock from a vendor on Ebay. What a mess! I think the rock was collected from a mangrove area because there was a lot of mud on the rock. Very little life on the rock and it smelled like the NJ Turnpike.

On the flip side, Ive heard some good and decent stories about LR on Ebay.

No need to ebay shop for LR...
What you'll end up paying for shipping, will most likely end up the same for better, quality rock.
Plenty of good deals from members & Vendors here on MR...
Filled with plenty of life / coraline & no need for any major cycle (or finding new pest).
As the others stated, you can pick which pieces appeal to you.

If you're interested in Marco Rock, he'll be at the NJ Frag Swap on October 27 (along with 15 other vendors). In addition to selling rock -- no shipping -- he's also providing a rock building workstation for attendants to try their hand making mini rock structures.

One vendor on Ebay from Cali was selling or is still selling LR at 1.99 a pound was pretty decent.Took a week to get but no significant die off but of course needed curing anyway. Not a bad deal.Always read their feedback.
