I had it with manual dosing I cant dose same time every day or forgot to dose here and there and some sps arent happy have some stn on my maricultured colonies and slight bleaching on some montes so I am guessing my alk is not steady.. Sps frags that came from tanks are fine I dont think ill get any more maricultured they stress easy, ill just keep one for a clue to a potential problem. Here are a few questions why does some of my sps grow upward but dont really encrust the plugs, where I see some peoples frags cover the plug in a few weeks?I have a 40 gal tank total 55 water volume with sump.Would a doser or reactor better suite a small tank.I dont have a controller yet,so I was looking into prioflux dosers because they work as stand alone.. can they be hooked to a apex in the future or do they only run as stand alone. Also what fail safe can be used to prevent overdosing in the event of a stuck pump or program fault? Its starting to get annoying the corals start to color up and then they loose color.I really want to get this tank as steady as possible what would be the best solution?

i have my bubble magus for a year. i dont see any over dosing. the only main concern is under dosing which causes imbalance between alk and cal. dosing pump stuck on is kind of an rare event. in future you can hook any doser to apex and use ph to monitor it to prevent any overdose of alk. for a small tank cal reactor seems to be a overkill and its harder to adjust.

I bumped it up to 40ml pt one and 2 I want to keep the alk around 9-9.5 but it sometimes drops to 7.6 at the low.. I had it steady at 7.6 for a while but had faded colors so I up the dose over a period of 2 weeks and the colors started to show better and I seen encrusting.. but I was fishing in the canyons over the weekend and had my gf dose for me but between work and fishing I cant dose everyday the same time, my tank seems to really eat up the alk or its eating the cal fast which makes the alk dip.I use b ionic..Also the coraline algae comes and goes like it turns light ..I want to get a grip on this there some strong acros in there I had for a while I really dont wanna stress or even loose them.. I want to have them thriving instead of surviving.

Since I've been reading up on this calc will drop 1meq/l (2.8dkh) for every 20ppm of calcium so with most test kits you will see alk drop and cal remain stable since 5ppm is very hard to detect. Corals use alk and cal equally which is why we dose two part equally. Check out the last article I posted in my thread Low Alk in the chemistry forum.

For a 40 gallon tank i would definitely say dosers or have you tried kalk?

The chart in this article shows where the break even points are for the different methods on a 120g. The points would be even further away on a smaller tank.

I never tried kalk . Theres one thing i want to try is run a tube from the skimmer air intake to the window .i am gonna find a good doser so i.think that should help keep it steady

i would go with pumps.what kind of salt are you using and what level is your mag? If you have low mag your calcium and alkalinity will always fight for space. mag keeps them from binding and it is easier to keep levels of alk and cal when your mag is in check.
