I've got some Capnella frags that have settled on a huge rock in my tank and I'd like to move them off it and into a better spot in the tank for their needs. The rock itself can't be easily moved so that's not an option.

Can I carefully tease the foot off the rock with an old credit card, like you can do with Xenia or is there a better way to get to release?

Thanks in advance,

Tracy

You could. Or you could just cut it off and put the colony where you want it. Chances are, the stump will grow into a new coral. Then you can do it all again.

So you're telling me I can 'convince' xenia to come up off the rock? Looks like I'll be getting my hands wet today!

I have just peeled them of with my fingernails before. Stick my nail under to get it started and rip it right off.

Or if you have a dremel just cut a small piece of the rock off and reglue it where ever you want it.

This is what I'd suggest unless you still want a small Capnella left on the rock.

Yes, you can use a credit card and "tease" the foot up. I've found it helps to have the colony out of the water for a minute or two so that it's good and retracted.

Okay, I opted for cutting it off, and hope the transplants survive.

Thanks all!

Another use for my dremel, I love it! "See Dear, it's not a useless little toy, it's for the tank!" :D

ummm, not to be a killjoy, but a dremel does not work to well submerged in saltwater :) I seem to remember that he said that he can not take the rock out? LOL! I have the same problem. My Kenya has reproed and I am trying to figure out how to move the new coral to a softie tank without killing it. I suppose I am going to have to cut it and hope for the best
