Can you cure LR outside the house in the Summer?

I am really debating getting some new LR. Or just hope water changes will fix my rock (long shot).

I live in a condo and have no where to cure LR in the house.

I was thinking on my deck in a rubbermaid with a heater and powerhead.

Questions are the summre temps reaching 90 lately here and I have NO shade on the deck.

Will it be ok or not? Plus, I have no skimmer ot cure the LR so letting it sit in the tubs for 6 weeks, is that enough?

You can cover the tank with tarp or styrofoam to keep out the heat. Temperature will be an issue if it hit 90F (you need the heater for the night?). You can run a skimmer 50% if you can move it without too much work.

Temp will probably go over 90, especially being in the sun all day. I can cover it with a towel but I dont want to make it look like Sanford & Son on my porch either.

I'm currently doing this as well, although its on an enclosed porch so the light coming in is through that semi-transparent fiberglass crap. One thing I've noticed is algae blooms ga-freaking-lore. I put a skimmer (rated for 180gallons.. but its a cheap chinese one) and it's pulling some good gunk out, but I still am having an issue with cyano (mostly) even though I put 3 powerheads in there! Haven't really noticed a temp issue (although I'm sure it is a bit on the warm side) but the algae is what seems to be a major problem for me.

Been going strong for almost 2 months too, so unsure about its viability although "experts" say that using natural light is quite benificial.

Well, If the heat is going to cause algae blooms then I wont do it.

I guess my options are to buy cured fro mthe LFS @ $10 lb or live with my dead algae infested LR.

Heat is not going to cause algae bloom. Low temperature is never a "bottleneck" for plant growth in aquarium setting unless you do a outdoor tank in the middle of winter.

Skimmer is definitely going to be a big plus, particularly in first week or two, however. You be amazed at how much it pull out, even ifyou have the cheapest skimmer made 10 yrs ago. Anyone in your neighborhood that can lend you a spare one for a few week?

I am worried about the high temps. I have a heater for nighttime low temps.

Nah, don't worry about the heat. A guy I know cranks the heater to max when he cooks live rock. STinks like crazy, but it gets through the nitrate cycle faster.

Yah, sorry I didn't mean to imply the heat is what caused the cyano outbreak. The nutrients are the what feed them but the sunlight is what really lets them grow nicely (blue bulbs like 14000k tend to not have the right spectrum for cyano).
