The Pirates Coins gold foil wrapped chocolates have been found to have melamine in them. I know that Costco sold them in bags in bulk, not sure where else. Please don't let your kids eat any of the foil wrapped coins this Halloween.

The article says these we only sold/distributed in Canada.

Sherwood Brand says those of its chocolate coins that contain melamine were vended only in Canada, that none of those confections reached the U.S.

I know. But IMO you never can be too safe. When going door to door, it is rare that you know who has been where to get their candy. Yes I'm overly cautious and probably just a bit neurotic about it.. but it's my son. It's okay in my book to be that way over certain things with kids. We check candy still, just like my parents did when I was a kid. Opened or punctured things go in the trash. etc.

Guess that happens when you were raised with a Grandfather always saying "Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.".

Ah, the good old days when all you had to worry about were razor blades in apples and straight pins in Girl Scout cookies. China has single handedly turned melamine into a 5th food group. Anti-freeze as a sweetener would have been a much bigger hit if it weren't for that dang whistle blower.

I agree, I would not trust the reports that it only entered Canada.

After finding melamine in baby formula made in China I'll skip any food products coming out of their factories.
