For the last ten years i have been waiting and waiting to buy a pair of these fish. I never wanted to spend the 275 - 375 they go for, because they are a cooler water fish.

These clowns live in cooler waters like 74 - 76 degrees. These clowns were breed in Hawaii by talented breeder name Karen Brittian. She figured out somehow how she could get full bars on these fish. In the last year Sustainable Aquatics released some misbarred wide bands but they demand for them was marred by the missing wide band.

This fish available as a captive bred fish is a major boost to the conservation of the Eco system in Australia. Any tank bred fish or captive bred fish is a boost to conservation. Watchman Gobys are now available tank bred.

What i dont think most people realize is that its actually cheaper for ORA and these breeders to make platinum clowns snowflakes then it is to produce full bars. Those fish lack nutrients and cause them to form misbars.

Alot of people are calling it "Guppyfication" of clownfish.

Here is a video of these not so shy guys.

Its crazy i keep saying that too they look like saddlebacks. The only difference i notice as juvis is the yellow along the back they started to develope.

Its Nuts

E - these are going in my display tank as soon as i redue it.

Im going to do something different with the cube they are gonna be in.

Since they are kept at cooler temps i might be able to keep some cooler temp fish and corals.

the ora platnum and picassos are just regular clowns with deformities so they cant really breed them as much as there an accident of nature with all of their inbred fish that they have. thats why they are so expensive, if they were jsut regularly bred like the rest of the clowns then they would be cheap like a regular perc.

huh?

O ok now I see. they have plenty of brood stock to produce as many platinum and piccase clownfish as they want. if you have never been to ORA i can tell you this. Collecting larva is a full time job. they have so many you could bag 1/2" picasso's all day and not even notice it, and still your boss looking for more production from you. they release them slowly to keep prices up.

what RC is talking about is that when you breed clownfish if the water is not kept pristine, the fish will misbar. since misbarring doesnt matter with picasso's plats .. since that already misbarred (technicaly overbars). they can raise these guys in somewhat less stingent condition. that is why it cost them less to produce then perfect fuilly barred percula.

with these Latz everyone was trying to breed them and failing for years. when they finally started to have success all fish were missbars, and noone wanted them. until Karen Brittian figured out a reliable way to raise them and produce fully barred fish.

Its funny to me that noone wants a misbar unless you name it something silly. when I first started breeding clownfish everyone was trying to breed the perfect percula.. times chgange...

Im not sure i understand but i will reply with this.

ORA can def breed them. Once they find a certain fish with a propensity to show certain markings they breed that fish with another that one that shows the same markings. If you do this some will show up lookin like the parents.

Your def wrong on the accident thing. These are no accidents there are from selective breeding. The reason why they are so expensive is that they are considered unusual. ORA dictates the price.

When the platinum came out one vendor made it sound like there was not many to go around and priced them at 750 a fish. Two weeks later these suckers showed up at at least a hundred stores across the US for 350 a fish.

Mis barred fish are easier to raise then full barred. No matter how you look at it.
