bubble algae, and you can get rid of it by using a flat head screwdriver or something that will scrape it off your rock...make sure not to burst the bubble because it releases spores which will produce more bubble algae. Emerald crabs are also known to eat bubble algae incase you wanted to solve it a more "natural" way.

I just pulled mine out of the tank yesterday with a exacto and it came out fine. I was surprised to find that it is actually hard like a paint ball. I was expecting a thin bubble. Just get the knife under it and cut it off the rock, I went extra deep to insure that I didn't break the thing open so I actually took a very thin sliver of rock with it. Better safe than sorry. What part of Iraq were you in? I was in Muqdadiya which is 70 Miles NE of Baghdad, also went to najaf, fallujah, mosul, tikrit. All the nicest places lol. Good luck with the bubble.

When it is just one it is really neither, the problem with them is if you pop a bubble and the spores spread it soon will be everywhere. Then it is unsightly. My LFS had a tank that had one on a rock, another rock fell and it broke it open, month or so later it was EVERYWHERE. Lierally covering everything, tank crashed soon after, but for an unrelated issue (chiller failed). Anyway, that is what I have learned about them, so i removed the one I had just to be safe.
