By now, many members here must have noticed I am the one who always call DEP, CDC, and other agencies about irregular behaviour of animals and strange sightings.

For last 2 years, I have discussed this bed bugs situation in New York with a CDC friend after I was asked to help rid the bugs out of some friends' apt. I felt this could be an epidemic happening. Yesterday, I met my friend in CDC again and he told me the situation as it stands now is even worse mockingly. A new diease called BBDMD is spreading in NY. Bed bugs infestation is reaching an epidemic level with NYC being the hardest hit city in ALL United States. However, comparing to this BBDMD, it's nothing. BBDMD spread like wide fire in New York. Victims of bed bugs are calling in to ask for help ASAP as they claimed to be discriminated by their co-workers, friends and more. Victims of bed bugs are rejected to come inside their friends' houses, ignored in parties(forget about the hugs,) and some were asked to shake their clothes, bags, and bodies before entering someone else premises. The full name of this new disease is called the Bed Bugs Discrimination Mental Disease.

I feel really bad for both the bed bugs victims(receiving ends of the effect of BBDMD) and the victims of the BBDMD(the acting end of the effect of the BBDMD.

People are misinformed about those bugs. They prefer a clean house rather than a dirty one as people may think. All they want is blood. They don't behave like cockroaches where they feed on food and garbage. My Father in law had them on the bed and was constantly being bitten by them to the point it drove him crazy. We hired a exterminator and it was expensive!2 thousand for the clean up and follow up spraying. My inlaws were embarrassed to have had them thinking people would talk about them. It's becoming a real problem.

Can you tell me where BBDMD is listed on the CDC website because it's not listed. Epidemic or endemic? Not sure if it would or should even be classified as a disease... Just people being ignorant and paranoid if you ask me. Why would someone say anything in the 1st place... it would be more embarrasing. From my knowledge, they need a host in order to thrive. That's why the person is evacuated from the apt or dwelling for 2-4 weeks and the place fumigated by a pest control specialist with a body suit. Hope you wore one Wingo... Best of luck to your friend. He'll be fine. My cha ching.

BBDMD is not listed in CDC. As a joke, my friend who works in CDC reply my concern over bed bugs infestation with some other observations I have missed. I always told him strange sightings whenever I met him. He asserts that I am correct in forseeing bed bugs being a problem while mockingly joke with me saying that there is a BBDMD. I experienced something like what he said but did not aware of the seriousness until yesterday. I worked and camped at Catskills back in June for a week and was covered by mosquitos marks. A remark came from a friend of mine during lunch. "Are those bed bugs marks? Stay away from me." I did not even realize people here are already so frightened by bed bugs then.

This remark of his is kind of ironic because we were eating at the resturant across the corner of Union St Mannicipal Parking where I decided to report sigthings of strange mosquito behaviour years back. And that year, two person in Flushing died of the mosquito transimtted West Nile virus. I would be more concerned about the marks being mosquito marks than bed bugs marks. Of course, no one can tell will the bed bugs eventually carry some dangerous diseases but the sight of an person's body biten by them, alone, is quite unpleasant.

My cousin does research in Geneva in Infectious diseases, West Nile, Bird Flu, and now Bed dugs, I'll keep you guys updated on this epidemic, It is not only in NY it is thru out the world and it seams to be getting worse. It is possible for them to be carriers of other diseases. Just like mosquitoes.
