As a kid I was watching the Cousteau expeditions every Sunday, admiring these adventurers/scientists, who are drinking wine, smoking, and wearing revealing shorts. I would guess that in our world of "cleanness" and "do not do that in front of the kids" such documentaries would not last long nowadays.
Anyway, now that everything is more or less online, I am rediscovering them, and was surprised to see how uncaring the divers were. In "The Silent World" they can be seen breaking large plates of corals, putting dynamite to "count fish", killing a baby whale then the sharks attacking it, not to mention the super racist accent (French pig-din) given to a turtoise egg collector.
I know Cousteau later regretted some parts of the movie, but it is still an important document, showing the diver bottles we so well know, as well as the first sea scouters, etc.

Then of course during the Odyssey part:
- The coral jungle
- Sharks
A special favorite of mine takes place in Antarctica. There is a part where the divers go and dive inside an iceberg, just beautiful and eerie.
