changing tek light ballast

i was wondering has anyone changed tek light t5 ballast out for icecap ballast so that it can be over driven.

i have a 36" 6 bulb sunlight supply tek light. They come installed with advanced ballast was thinking is it possible to change the ballast instead of buy a new retro fit kit

oh would a combination of ice cap 660 and 430 do it?

yes it can be done and would do 2 660's on a timer or even nicer would be 3 430's dusk to dawn, how i use to have my 62g but 3 tek retro's then to a 660 driving 4 and a 430 driving 2 for dusk effect, be easy to do except ballast would be external, make sure you wire right, ice cap give's you diagrams for wiring, and sure the tek once opened up can be re-wired and take old ballast out of it, also does it have individual reflectors ?

thansk alot for that answer and yes tek has indiviual reflectors. i was reading thought ice cap reflectors are way better..i kinda wish i went with a retrofit now

you would need to rewire the bulbs because the wiring for a icecap ballast is different from an advance ballast. Aside from the ballast not fitting into the Tek fixture, therefore wiring hanging out and looking kinda ghetto, I don't see why it wouldn't work
