Checked H2O with a TDS meter

Out of curiosity I checked my water levels with a TDS meter.
I use America's choice distilled water for all my water changes.
When I checked my PPM's for distilled water it came out to Zero.
I checked my tapwater and it's almost 300ppm.
A few days ago I might a batch of water to do a water change. I mix instant ocean and oceanic salt. Just checked the PPM of that and it came out to 98-99. That got me curious so I checked my tank water and it was about the same. Even with salt shouldn't my tank PPM still be Zero? I'm a little confused.
Any input would be great.

when you add salt your TDS goes up :flower:

Phew. That makes sense. Just been getting hair algae in my tank so I'm trying to figure out the cause of it. Running chemi-pure, debating if I should look for something else.
