Does anyone have any advice regarding chillers? The temperature here is a chilly -18 outside. So, to save on energy costs, my dh has lit up a fire in the living room, the same room where the tank is. We usually keep the house at 68, but with the fire in the room, it's a little toastier in there now.
With an ambient room temp of 68, and no heater in the tank, my tank stays usually between 78 & 82 with the lighting and submersible pump. Last night before bed I checked and found the temp to be 89!!! I immediately turned out the lighting and opened the glass covers. This morning it is down to 84, and there are no apparent losses yet. The lights will remain off today.
I am looking at chillers in the Dr.s Foster & Smith catalogue, but need more information. I don't have a sump, and my refugium is a 5gal HOB model. So, I was thinking that at this point a Drop-in chiller makes the most since. The one listed is a Prime Drop-In Chiller with single stage and dual stage options. Does anyone have any advice????
The tank is a 95gal wave front that is 25 in deep and 4ft long. My lights are a coralife fixture with 2 250w 10K metal halides, 2 50/50 power compacts and 4 LEDs. My protein skimmer is a Freedom Filter Pro - an intank model. To be honest, I don't know much about the submersible pump it is fitted with as the retailer I mail-ordered from was given free rein to choose something appropriate for my tank for me before I got started!
Thanks,
Candy
