How long do clams live?

I have a tank that I feed heavily and it used to have algea problems but the algea went away when I purchased a small crocea clam. This was a 20 gallon that originally was not planned to be a reef but I could not help myself.

I am now interested in puting a squamosa clam in my 75 gallon reef, but I am concerned that when a clam that large reaches its natural end the tank will crash becouse it is no longer removing nutrients.

If clams must ultimately die I would be better of using multiple smaller clams instead of one large clame.

high 2 digits (if not 3).

I don't know about you, but usually people don't expect their clams to die in their tanks (unless there is something seriously wrong). However, don't worry, if infact, the clam died, your fish and detrivores will have a large feast.
