if you are sure that it is still alive and dont want to rip it off, just pull it a little bit and then just cut him with a clean razor blade as close to the rock as possible.

Cibo, if the clam is truly unhappy where you put it, it will move to a more desirable spot.;) I have two clams, and one of them has never attached (going on 3 years). If put it up on the rocks, and it has always jumped back down to the sand bed.;)
Like Kris said, did you look inside to see if it is still alife? Although I believe that if it were dead it would no longer be attached.

I agree....an unhappy clam jumps right off its perch. I have 2 croceas that I keep on the sandbed because they will not attach to rocks. They are happy and growing well, even though I only have PC lights (55wts, 10000k and actinic). I've had one for a little over a year, the other for 18 months. They are always wide open and extended when the lights are on, but never shut 100% even at night (unless they are touched).

cibo, I would suggest you leave the clam be.;) They are living animals, and like such do their own thing. We are to try, and keep them as happy, and healthy with keeping their environment as close as we can to their natural environment other then that it is a guessing game as to what is going on with them. Give it plenty of time to settle in. Of course make sure all your parameters are within range.
Obviously it is alive, or it would not be attached to anything.;)
