Hi, I just set up the tank this weekend.
I'm letting it cycle out, but I'm noticing that even after scrubbing some of the rock I bought, I'm already seeing algae on my rocks. It's sad I know.
But, I'm going to forge ahead, so any tips to 'nip this issue in the bud' are appreciated as well as:
Needs now:
at least 2 cups of live sand just to start the tank off right (good est. tank)
1 small piece of LR (good est. tank)
Chaeto (I want to try it out)
Sorry, was naive to think that clean-up crew would be okay even now. Will wait to have them too:
cleaner shrimp
snails
(addition): cucumber, any other coral safe sand sifters
I prefer to pick up in Jersey, as it costs near $20 to roundtrip NYC just in tolls (I don't mind driving 30-45mins) . But I am supposed to be picking up a quarantine tank in Brooklyn this Sunday so 12-4pm I can do pick ups.
Anything else you think/know I need for this beginning tank, let me know.
Btw, so far some of my rocks have tube worms, and 3 small polyps of some sort. The polyps were out and about the first 2 days the tank was up, but are now not coming out. Not sure why, but will run parameter check soon.
Also, anyone know where to get mangroves other than from online stores?
