When I moved a couple months back I had to take all the plumbing down of course. The insides of the pipes where coated in a brown slime film. This system was up for about 2 yrs and the amount of slime was only a film. I am just wondering if anyone ever cleans out their pipes. I know that large aquariums clean out thier pipes. Anyone here ever bother?

I watch any sharp bends where potential buildups occur and clean those as needed.

I try to clean out plumbing at least yearly, and pumps every month or two. I have found that even small amounts of build-up can restrict flow somewhat, probably due to the drag it causes. Muriatic acid is a wonderful thing for cleaning stuff. Just don't get it on you, and wash things off really good. It dissolves calcification instantly, and also tends to melt off the slimy algae and bacteria, with little scrubbing required.

well if your plumbing is not glued together you will have a LOT bigger potential problems than build up. And if they are glued together I wouldn't have the foggest idea how to clean them out, if you have junctions that you can unscrew I bet you'll end up making more of a mess than you'll end up cleaning so why bother.
