Clown kicking up sand

My male and female true perc go around and kick up the sand all over the tank. They dug out the front two corners and the female goes up and down the glass once every 10 minutes and after that the male flies over and goes down the glass or stays at the top.. Are they ready to breed or are they just making a mess?

Tank is a fluval edge. Two clowns and a baby pajama cardinal , have a powerhead about 5 pounds of live rock, and a Conde anemone

how big are the clowns? i'm no clown expert but i believe they would have to be a couple of yrs old and about 3" or so to start breeding. perhaps they are practicing to be parents?

mine does that every couple of weeks for no reason as well. i have a rbta but he still goes to the corner and goes nuts. lol
i believe its normal since he has been doing it for years
