About 4 years ago the school I was attending in Israel took us on a trip to the dead sea. I think the dead sea is the lowest point (below sea level) in the world. It also has such a large salt to water ratio that you float regardless of the depth of water. I'm not kidding. . . it's a really cool experience.

Anyways, we had some beer and if you've ever been to Israel you know how insanely hot it gets! So, one of my buddies filled a bottle of dead sea water and we added some salt crystals from the bank, cut the top off the bottle and put it in the freezer for a few minutes. I think the saltwater had such a high concentration of salt that it didn't freeze. Or, I'm not remembering as the actual events happened because I drank a bunch of warm beer. But, what I thought happened was the water (that wouldn't freeze) because of the salt concentration would turn anything placed in it (in my case beer) very cold in a matter of minutes.

Have any of you tried/heard of this before? Do you know at what point the water is too concentrated with salt to freeze?

I'm just trying to find a use to old tank water. :)

well salt water freezes at a lower temperature than regular water. I dont think it would chill it in minutes like you say but it wouldn't take to long. that was the same concepet of the old school ice cream makers when they used ice and salt to in a drum to make ice cream.
