Time to check your heaters folks .

Unplug heaters and inspect it for damage , cracks in the glass and the cable that makes contact with the salt water , allow it to cool for a good time period and then remove it from the tank and clean it for a good inspection .

Place it in a fully submersible container that gives you enough water to make it to the water line and plug into outlet and make sure it's heating correctly .

Adjust the temps and readjust to make sure it's responding well to desired temp and when inspection is over and heater has passed , just replace into your tank and your good to go!.

Simple measure and a reef saving one !

Happy reefing folks!

Good timing. I just installed a new Jaeger heater with a Finnex controller last week. I also replaced my net top with acrylic sheets to keep the heat in. Remember when falling leaves used to signal the change i seasons?

Acrylic sheets may keep some of your heat in, but they are hurting the oxygen exchange :(
..they are also likely reducing how much lighting is getting to your corals too.

..good reminder SWinBrkln :)

I only cover 3/4 of the top (18 of the 24 front to back), which when combined with the skimmer doesn't affect the oxygen level that much. I also turn up the LEDs a bit to compensate for the reflected light. Without the sheets I go from 2 gals a day to over 4 in evaporation. The Ph reacts more to the windows being closed then to the top being covered. Those are very valid points though. Thanks for the heads-up.
